Microsoft, the worlds largest software manufacturer has come along way since its humble beginnings in 1975. Ever since its first operating system in 1980 called Xenix, the question has often been asked, is Microsoft ahead of its time?
With the recent announcement that Microsoft’s newest operating system, Windows 8, will be available to the public on the October 26 2012 this question is again being examined.
The development of Windows 8 started before Windows 7 and shipped in 2009, since then many announcements about changes and capabilities of the new Operating system have been made.
The next version of windows will be available on personal computers, including home and business, desktops, laptops, tablets and home theatre PCs and will have new features such as the ability to log into windows with a Microsoft account and a new user interface based on Microsoft’s metro design language.
The new user interface will be similar to that of the Windows phone operating system with a tiled display where each tile represents an application. These apps will be available in the Windows app store.
These features listed are only the tip of the iceberg of what is new and changed in windows 8, there is a huge amount of changes and new features available. This brings us to the question, is Microsoft ahead of its time?
Are all of these changes necessary when windows 7 was only released in 2009?
In keeping up with the times, Microsoft is certainly ahead of the pack and judging by their previous successes Windows 8 will surely impress.
